Ginkgo Biloba For Hair Growth Benefits
Ginkgo biloba is most commonly known as a memory-boosting supplement, but there’s another part of our noggins that might benefit from it. According to researchers, it can help with hair growth, too!
Although the ginkgo trees that produce leaves used in these supplements have been around for centuries, research is still scratching the surface of its potential perks. For example, a recent study highlighted by the Daily Express in the UK claimed that taking ginkgo biloba had promising results for regrowing thinning strands.
The study authors explained, “The systematic ingestion of ginkgo biloba extracts has been shown to increase and maintain peripheral micro capillary circulation, ultimately improving or maintaining hair growth.” In other words, taking ginkgo biloba helped increase blood flow, which then strengthens and stimulates hair follicles to promote growth.
The study adds that this benefit was found with topical treatments that contain ginkgo as well. Previous research observed similar benefits from ginkgo biloba, like a Japanese study that also claimed it could be used as a hair tonic to promote hair regrowth.
More studies need to be done to verify just how helpful ginkgo biloba is for strengthening our strands, but you can check with your doctor about adding supplements to your daily routine in the meantime. There should be no harm in trying it out and hopefully ending up with the luscious locks you’ve been dreaming of!
You can find ginkgo biloba supplements in the health section of most stores or online (Buy on Amazon, $9.90). It’s also included in several products specifically designed for hair growth, like Mielle Organics Adult Healthy Hair Vitamins (Buy at Walmart, $19.65) or Earth Life Thinning Hair Scalp Cream (Buy on Amazon, $34).
Here’s hoping that adding a little gingko biloba to our lives will boost our memory and our strands!
